Ethanol fuel is already available in Canada blended with gasoline. Other countries have already converted to ethanol or are trying to. Ethanol fuel is changing our lives and changing the economy in ways no one anticipated before, with energy costs rising every day, there has been an increased interest in ethanol fuel. Ethanol is a variety of alcohol that can be produced in a natural fashion, similar to the way in which alcoholic beverages are produced. Ethanol fuel is a sustainable energy resource that is intended to provide a more environmentally and economically friendly alternative to fossil fuels such as diesel and gasoline. There are many debates surrounding the environmental friendliness of ethanol, and the production viability.

Ethanol fuel is not a new concept, but only lately has it gained support as an alternative fuel to help solve America’s oil crisis and environmental problems. Ethanol is a totally renewable fuel that is made from corn, and therefore can be produced right here in the United States. Ethanol fuel is the most commonly used biofuel in the world and particularly in Brazil. Ethanol can be put to use in petrol engines as a substitute for gasoline. Ethanol fuel is derived from sugar-cane or maize but apparently ethanol from maize is better. Ethanol fuel is environmentally friendly considering the issue with effects of global warming and unfortunately africa as a continent is most at risk from the detrimental effects of global warming and i think it is in africa this issue is given the least priority.

Ethanol fuel is an alternative fuel to gasoline. Typically, ethanol fuel is made either from a grain such as corn or maize or from sugarcane. Ethanol fuel is produced from corn. E85 is the term of motor fuel blends of up to 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline.

Production capacity of 10 distilleries attached with sugar mills is about 143 million litres of ethyl alcohol per annum, which is equivalent to consumption of approximately 0.560 million tones of molasses. It will expand existing capacity by additional about 105 million litres per annum, augmenting the aggregate capacity with likely production roll out on efficient performance level to 314.5 million litres. Products such as wood chips and switchgrass, however, which produce cellulosic ethanol, generally yield more product and take up less land. But wood chips and switchgrass are tough to break down. Production of high-precision gears in North America will also begin in Honda’s Ohio transmission plant for the first time in North America. Production of engine components, including connecting rods, is being increased and strengthened in Alabama.

Diesel fuels are given a cetane rating or number that correlates with how long it takes fuel to ignite once it has begun to be injected into the engine's cylinder. This is commonly referred to as ignition delay time. Diesel, aviation fuel and domestic cooking gas were the first casualties of Obasanjo’s notorious deregulation programme in the down stream sector of the oil industry. Diesel engine operators should consult with their mechanic and engine manufacturer on strategies to better cope with the new fuel. New seals, injectors or other components may be required for good longterm performance.
